Ordering & Pickup

How Do I Order?

Orders are placed through our online shop at edgewater-hearth.com.

Because every loaf is handcrafted in small batches and baked to order, quantities are limited for each bake. Once a bake is sold out, we may not be able to accommodate additional orders for that pickup period.

When can I place my order?

Our weekly online pre-order window opens every Sunday and closes Tuesday evening.

Pickup dates and times range from Friday evening through Saturday. Available pickup dates and times are shown when ordering.

Our rolling four-week schedule is also a great place to see which weeks our bread will be available.

Do you bake every week?

Not always. Edgewater Hearth is a small-batch cottage bakery, and our four-week schedule on our homepage will occasionally show “No Baking This Week.” This simply means we won’t be baking or offering pickups during that week.

Check our current schedule on our homepage for upcoming bake weeks.

When can I pick up my bread?

Our regular pickup times are Friday evenings and Saturdays. You can select a specific pickup date and time when ordering. Please select the option that works best for you so we can have your bread ready when you arrive.

Where do I pickup my order?

Edgewater Hearth is a cottage bakery operated out of our home on Cleveland’s Near West Side. We do not have a retail storefront. Orders are available for porch pickup, with pickup date and time options available when you place your order.

Pickup details, including our address, will be provided with your order confirmation.

What if I can't make my scheduled pickup?

We understand that plans change. If you know you’re going to miss your scheduled pickup, please contact us as soon as possible. Because our bread is baked specifically for each order, we cannot guarantee that missed orders can be held indefinitely or moved to a future bake.

Do you ship or sell outside of Ohio?

No. Edgewater Hearth is an Ohio cottage bakery, and our bread is available for local sale and pickup only.

We do not ship our products or sell them outside of Ohio, per state regulations.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment is securely processed through our online shop when you place your order. Available credit, debit, and digital payment options will be displayed at checkout.

We do not accept cash at pickup.

Our Bread

What ingredients are in your bread?

Our Classic Country Sourdough begins with just four things: flour, water, sea salt, and sourdough starter. Other varieties include additional ingredients, which are listed on each product page and on the loaf’s packaging.

Does your bread contain allergens?

Our sourdough contains wheat and is not gluten-free. Some varieties may contain other major allergens. Please see product descriptions and packaging for detailed information.

All Edgewater Hearth products are prepared in a home kitchen where other allergens may also be present. Please review the ingredient and allergen information provided for each variety before ordering, particularly if you have a food allergy or sensitivity.

Is sourdough gluten-free?

No. Our bread is made with wheat flour and contains gluten. It is not appropriate for people who need to follow a gluten-free diet.

Is your bread vegan?

Our Classic Country Sourdough is made without dairy, eggs, or other animal-derived ingredients.

Ingredients vary among our specialty loaves, so please check the individual product description and ingredient list before ordering.

What makes Edgewater Hearth sourdough different?

Our bread is naturally leavened with sourdough starter rather than commercial yeast and given time to ferment and develop its flavor and texture. Every loaf is handcrafted in small batches and baked to order using simple ingredients.

Can I request substitutions or a custom loaf?

We aren’t able to offer individual ingredient substitutions or custom recipes at this time.

If there’s a variety you’d like to see Edgewater Hearth offer in the future, we’d love to hear about it, so please let us know.

If you have a large custom order and would like to explore a variety that we do not typically offer, please contact us directly.

Storage & Freshness

How should I store my sourdough?

For the first day or two, keep your loaf at room temperature in its original packaging or another breathable bread bag. For longer storage, a bread box or well-sealed container can help slow moisture loss.

Freezing your bread is another option. See “Can I freeze my sourdough?” in this section for more details.

We generally don’t recommend refrigerating sourdough. Refrigeration can cause bread to become stale more quickly.

How long will my bread stay fresh?

Our bread is made without artificial preservatives, so it naturally changes as it ages. It is at its best during the first few days after baking, when the crust and crumb are freshest.

After that, don’t count it out. Slightly older sourdough is excellent toasted or used for grilled cheese, bruschetta, croutons, French toast, and other dishes.

Can I freeze my sourdough?

Absolutely. Freezing is the best option if you won’t finish your loaf within a few days.

You can freeze the loaf whole, but slicing it first makes it easy to take out only what you need. Wrap it well or place it in a freezer-safe bag. Individual slices can go directly from the freezer into the toaster; larger portions can be thawed at room temperature and briefly warmed in the oven to refresh the crust.

Be sure to wrap your bread tightly or place it in a freezer-safe bag, pressing out as much air as possible so the bread stays as fresh as possible when thawed.

About Edgewater Hearth

What is a cottage bakery?

A cottage bakery is a small food business that produces its products in a home kitchen rather than a commercial bakery or retail storefront.

Edgewater Hearth is a Cleveland cottage bakery. Baking from our home allows us to work in small batches, bake to order, and focus on the time and careful craftsmanship that naturally leavened bread deserves.
